India’s Recognition in Classical Music

In recent years, India has played a significant role in the world of classical music. Indian classical music has not only gained international acclaim but is also recognized as one of the most versatile art forms. The deep spirituality and poetic beauty embedded in this music reflect India’s cultural richness, fostering a profound connection between the listener’s mind, body, and soul. Regardless of one’s awareness, this art form naturally creates a bond with the surrounding environment in its purest sense.

The Essence of Indian Classical Music

Indian classical music is an integral part of India’s cultural heritage. It is built upon a system of twelve primary swaras (musical notes). These swaras come together to form a structured system known as Raaga, which not only shapes melody but also evokes deep emotions. The unique constitution of these notes influences both the mood and expression of Indian music, making it a deeply immersive experience.

The Significance of Raagmala in Indian Music

A prescribed form of verse that incorporates pure classical ragas is known as Raagmala. These compositions possess the unique ability to symbolize specific objects and emotions through musical expression. Around 350–400 years ago, Jain saints and mahants composed raagmalas as devotional offerings, enriching the spiritual and musical traditions of India.

A remarkable collection of 36 such raagmalas has now been compiled and published as Raagopanishad. Edited by Acharya Shri Tirthabhadra Suriji, a disciple of Acharya Shri Kalapurna Suriji, these compositions are being performed under the esteemed guidance of Swaradish Pad Vibhushit Dr. Bharat Balvalli Ji.
